rebecca_bw_head1Rebecca J. Scritchfield, MA, RD, LD, ACSM Health Fitness Specialist is a leading nutrition and exercise expert for the metro Washington, D.C. area. She helps people reach their full wellness potential through realistic approaches to behavior changes that fit their busy lives. Her motto “nothing changes until you do” exemplifies her belief in the power individuals already possess to realize the lifestyle they want.

Through her private nutrition counseling practice, Elite Nutrition, Rebecca works one-on-one with athletes of all ages and abilities. She provides winning strategies that help athletes, from high school to the pros, perform at their peak.

Rebecca works with busy professionals, retirees, and students struggling to lose weight. She helps them get on the path to success by emphasizing small changes that yield big results. Using the same monitoring device on the hit reality television show, The Biggest Loser, Rebecca examines overall nutrition and exercise behaviors to make sound recommendations.

When Rebecca speaks on food and nutrition, her passion, energy, and enthusiasm is palpable to everyone in the room. She has a unique ability to capture the audience’s attention through demonstrations, discussion, and examples that help people understand the topic at hand and apply what they’ve learned to their everyday lives. Together with Bernie Salazar, M.Ed., at-home winner of NBC’s  The Biggest Loser, she co-created The Nurture Principles - five wellness mantras that can help change your life!

An adjunct professor of sports nutrition at George Washington University, Rebecca shapes the minds of tomorrow’s health and wellness experts. An athlete herself, she has competed in marathons, triathlons, and numerous D.C. area road races. Rebecca is also a “loser”. Eight years ago she lost 40 pounds and has kept it off by following the recommendations she gives her clients today.

Rebecca authored a book chapter on World Food Culture and is currently authoring a book on inspiring weight loss stories. She blogs frequently about food and nutrition topics. Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Chicago Sun Times, Fox News, and Reuters have syndicated her posts. She connects with others through the popular social media services Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and MeetUp.

Rebecca earned a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. She graduated with honors and distinction with dual bachelor degrees in nutrition and chemistry. Rebecca is a registered and licensed dietitian. She serves on the Board of Directors of the D.C. Dietetic Association and is the 2009 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year. Rebecca is involved in the D.C. community volunteering for deserving organizations that promote nutrition and exercise in D.C.’s youth.
